WOW Competitor is a completely modular saddle which affords the rider the unique opportunity to create a saddle tailored to their specific requirements. Not only can riders choose their preferred seat, flap and knee roll with panel and girthing options that come together in a saddle designed for both horse and rider but they get a saddle packed with highly desirable features. The WOW Competitor is a custom saddle. However, should you change horses the saddle can be converted to fit the new horse with ease while keeping the saddle you love and giving you a saddle for life. A great deal of thought, consultation with riders and scientific research has gone into producing this saddle. The results actually ensure that the saddle named itself being the first word riders said when they tried it. The inter-changeable nature of the components in WOW gives you many more styles of saddle to choose from as well as actual fits for the horse. Lateral Flexion WOW has a unique TM carbon fibre tree and panel system; the front of the saddle can literally rotate with the horse’s shoulders therefore greatly increasing the freedom of the shoulder’s movement.

Security and Feel Because of the design and construction of the flaps and seat the feeling of stability & security is excellent. The unique seat shape gives a really close contact for the riders thigh.
A Laterally Flexible Tree The WOW tree can twist laterally to promote bigger shoulder movement and alleviate pressure whilst being rigid front to back. Movement or flexion of any kind longitudinally (that is: from the front to the back) is undesirable as it changes the contact with the horse’s back and can create pressure points.

Selecting your first WOW Saddle. Too many options to choose from? Wondering where to start? Its just like a restaurant with a delicious menu. Julia McLean from Kiah Equine admits to feeling a bit daunted at first also “but once I worked out what it was I actually wanted in my saddle it was just a matter of choosing panels and head-plate for my horse. Then it all just fell into place” she says. A rider will nearly always know in advance their preference for the seat and size and shape of the knee roll. We establish the seat size required and the length of flap that will suit. Very long legs sometimes encounter difficulties with saddle flaps catching on the tops of their long boots so an extra inch in length will negate that. On the other hand a slightly shortened flap will allow a shorter leg to make a better contact with the side of the horse. More often than not, the standard length is just perfect. In commencing the saddle-fit process we first select the right head-plate, fit it to the seat and place in on the horse’s back. This will allow us to identify whether the horse will require gusseted front panels, or not, or perhaps 3 inch rear gussets instead of standard 2 inch gussets.
How often should the fitting be checked? No more than any other saddle. But it does allow for the saddle to be adjusted to follow the natural changes that occur in the horse’s back through the seasons, age or muscle development. The saddle is fitted upon delivery and what happens all too frequently is that the horse, by working more efficiently and using various muscles better than before, changes shape in the first 8-12 weeks requiring a re-balance. This takes minutes to do. It is our experience that the saddle may well not be required to be refitted or even checked for another 12 months depending on the horse’s work. Here in Australia, we tend to ride our horses consistently all year round so are less affected by seasonal changes.
This is a very personalised custom saddle really. What happens if I change horses? Your saddle can be changed to fit different horses with ease. No other saddle can do this like WOW. Making the WOW saddle you love fit a new and different horse may sometimes be as simple as changing the head plate. Often this is the case given that we are usually drawn to the same type of horse over and over. However in the instance where you might have had a higher withered thoroughbred type but now have a wider flatter Warmblood type, a change of panels might be required. If you had had a custom saddle made for the first horse it would be unlikely you would be able to transfer it to the next one, in most cases you would require a completely new saddle. With WOW we are able to get you a new set of panels to fit this second horse at a considerably lower price than buying a whole new saddle and without changing the saddle you ride in.
It looks odd…… Yes, it is a different looking saddle That which makes it look so strange at first are the features that make it work so brilliantly. No seams in the seat add to rider comfort, the hollows allow the top of the thigh to sit comfortably and very close adding to the narrowness of the twist while the stitching lines in the padded flap offer a stability to the leg with an unrivalled softness and flexibility. The mono-flaps offer a close contact for the rider’s leg. WOW is proving itself at the highest levels of Eventing, Showing, Dressage, Endurance, Showjumping, Reining and more.

Why AIR?
Air changes shape immediately moulding to the horse’s back instantly and moves with the horse. Foams and gels cannot do that. In fact, the ability of foams and gels to absorb concussion is relative to the thickness of those pads. Air bags in Flair and Korrector reduce bulk. Air ‘self-levels’ within the pad adjusting to where it is needed. Both Flair and Korrector allow the rider to adjust and fine tune the balance of a saddle to accommodate seasonal changes in your horse’s back. |
